Main symptoms of prostate hypertrophy

Main symptoms of prostate hypertrophy

Prostatic hypertrophy is a common male disease. When prostatic hypertrophy occurs, it often leads to a variety of symptoms, especially urinary system symptoms. Sometimes there will be abnormal urination, leading to frequent urination and urgency. Sometimes urine retention will occur, which often causes symptoms such as dull pain and a feeling of heaviness in the perineum, which has a great impact on male sexual function.

Main symptoms of prostate hypertrophy

Among prostate diseases, prostate enlargement has a relatively high incidence rate, which has a great impact on men's health. However, few people know about the symptoms of prostate enlargement. Below I will introduce to you the common symptoms of prostate enlargement.

1. Abnormal urination

Abnormal urination is one of the most common symptoms of chronic prostatitis, mainly manifested as urethral burning or pain that varies in severity or recurs, discomfort in urination, frequent urination, urgency, pain when urinating, waiting to urinate, incomplete urination, dribbling urine, "white drops" after urination and defecation, and symptoms relieved by drinking more water and large urine volume. These are symptoms of urinary tract infection or bladder irritation. Those with severe infection or combined with benign prostatic hyperplasia may also have symptoms such as nocturia, difficulty urinating, weak urine stream and even urine retention.

2. Neuropsychiatric disorders with fever and chills

Fever and chills are relatively rare and can be seen in patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis caused by Gram-negative bacterial infection, especially in the elderly and frail. It manifests as long-term irregular fever or low-grade fever symptoms of unknown cause, and the body temperature may fluctuate irregularly within the range of 37.5℃-39.0℃.

3. Pain in the lower abdomen, perineum and lumbar sacral region

Pain is the main symptom of chronic prostatitis. Patients often feel pain, soreness or severe pain in the perineum or prostate area (around the anus, above and below the pubic region, lower abdomen, lumbar sacral region, groin area, inner thigh, scrotum, testicles and penis head), which can cause severe anxiety and even make them feel that "life is worse than death" and have suicidal tendencies.

4. Changes in sexual function

The main manifestations of sexual function changes are different and are also common symptoms of chronic prostatitis. Most patients often show sexual psychological abnormalities, accompanied by decreased libido and sexual dysfunction, resulting in a significant decrease in sexual excitement or sexual activity. Some patients may experience varying degrees of painful erections and ejaculation pain, frequent nocturnal emission, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and occasional hematospermia.

5. Frequent loose or dry stools

Some patients with prostatic hypertrophy may show digestive tract symptoms such as swelling around the anus and stool changes, which may be manifested as frequent loose stools, dry stools, or alternating between loose and dry stools. According to our clinical observations, about 30% of patients with chronic prostatitis may experience such stool changes. Some patients may visit the gastroenterology department of a general hospital with intestinal changes as the only symptom. After long-term treatment without cure, the diagnosis is confirmed by occasional prostatic fluid examination.

6. Mental Change

Patients may experience insomnia, frequent dreams, dizziness, memory loss, lack of concentration, fatigue, decreased masculinity, anxiety, depression, mood swings and even suicidal tendencies, which are symptoms of neuropsychiatric dysfunction, especially those who have not been cured for a long time.
