The glans of men is prone to disease. Since men usually do not take timely care of the glans, it is easy to be infected by bacteria, and some serious cases will cause glans inflammation. Some men find that their glans sometimes has a strange smell, and the smell is very strong. This situation is generally caused by a disease in the glans. So, what is the reason for the strong smell of the glans? 1. The reason why the glans penis has a strong smell The symptoms suggest that it is acute superficial balanoposthitis. Generally, due to the excessive length of the foreskin, the secretions of the inner plate cannot be cleared in time, allowing the pathogens to grow and multiply here, causing local inflammation, with symptoms such as flushing, redness, swelling, rashes, red spots, secretions, smegma, itching, odor, etc. 2. Acute superficial balanitis Balanitis is a diffuse inflammation of the foreskin and glans, which can be caused by infectious or non-infectious factors. Infectious cases are more common in clinical practice, often caused by fungal or bacterial infection under the foreskin. Balanitis can be divided into balanitis and glansitis. Balanitis refers to inflammation of the foreskin and its mucous membrane, and glansitis refers to inflammation of the mucous membrane of the glans penis. Since the two often appear at the same time, it is called balanitis. Acute superficial balanitis is the most common type of balanitis, mostly caused by bacterial infection, and sometimes related to injury and local irritation. 3. Clinical manifestations The patient feels pain, burning and itching in the glans or penis, which is aggravated by friction with clothes and pants. Due to the swelling of the glans penis and the friction of clothes and pants, it is sometimes inconvenient to move. Physical examination can show erythema, congestion, erosion, exudation and even bleeding on the inner surface of the foreskin and the glans. In severe cases, blisters or ulcers may appear, and there is a foul-smelling milky white purulent secretion, and sometimes the urethra is red and swollen. Those with significant local inflammation may be accompanied by mild systemic symptoms, such as fatigue, weakness, low fever, and enlarged inguinal lymph nodes. IV. Treatment 1. Avoid eating irritating foods, smoking and drinking. Keep the area clean and hygienic to avoid irritation. 3. For those with clear etiology, special treatment should be given to the causative factors. For example, oral metronidazole or tinidazole can be given for trichomonal balanitis. 4. For patients with obvious infection accompanied by fever and lymphadenopathy, systemic antibiotics can be applied. 5. For those with prepuce that is too long or phimosis, circumcision should be performed after the acute inflammation is under control. |
