Transurethral resection syndrome

Transurethral resection syndrome

The prostate is an important part of the male reproductive organ. If the prostate is not properly protected, some problems will occur. For example, prostate hyperplasia, prostate enlargement, etc., leading to some couples' disharmony in life. If the condition is serious, electrosurgical resection should be chosen for treatment. After the operation, treatment should be done according to the patient's various symptoms. It is recommended to maintain good habits of hygiene and diet.

Overview of the surgery

In the past 20 years, due to the improvement of training methods and the maturity of operation techniques, transurethral resection of the prostate has developed rapidly. After the prostatectomy, the patient is sent back to the ward and given an infusion and is not allowed to eat on the same day. At this time, a urinary catheter has been placed and there is no need to urinate. Within one month after transurethral resection of the prostate, the patient should be careful in his daily life, avoid lifting heavy objects, drinking alcohol, having sex, and avoiding constipation.

The doctor only needs to insert the electroresection scope through the urethra to complete the entire operation. There is no need to cut the skin and other layers of tissue, and no scars are left after the operation. In the past 20 years, due to the advancement of training methods and the maturity of operating techniques, this operation has developed rapidly.

Transurethral resection of the prostate has emerged with the advancement of resectionoscope manufacturing technology. Various resectionoscopes with sharp cutting, rapid and reliable electrocoagulation and ideal flushing systems have been introduced. In the past 20 years, this surgery has developed rapidly due to the improvement of training methods and the maturity of operating techniques.

Features of surgery

1. Non-open surgery After the operation, there is no visible scar on the patient's body, which is a major feature of transurethral prostatectomy. The doctor only needs to insert the electroresection scope through the urethra to complete the entire surgical operation. There is no need to cut the skin and other layers of tissue, and no scars will be left after the operation.

2. Short operation time: The electrosurgical resectoscope can directly reach the prostate tissue after being inserted into the urethra, omitting the operation procedure of cutting and suturing multiple layers of tissue, saving a lot of time. Moreover, since a large amount of flushing fluid is required to maintain a clear field of vision and remove the resected tissue, a long operation may cause transurethral electrosurgical resection syndrome and the risk of "water intoxication". Therefore, the operation itself is required to be completed within one hour, which also determines that the operation time cannot be too long.

3. Less surgical trauma. Since TURP is a non-open surgery and the operation time is short, the impact on the patient is naturally less than that of open surgery. Some elderly patients who cannot bear open surgery and some patients with systemic complications can also undergo this surgery.

4. TE can be repeated. Not only can patients with excessive prostate hyperplasia undergo multiple transurethral TE to eventually complete the removal of the entire hyperplastic prostate, but also those with tissue residues after open prostatectomy, whose symptoms cannot be relieved, or those whose symptoms recur after transurethral TE can still undergo TE or repeat TE to relieve the obstruction. In addition, bladder neck obstruction caused by various other reasons can also be solved by transurethral TE.
