Can testicular injury heal on its own?

The testicles are an important part of the male reproductive system, and testicular injury refers to a symptom caused by external trauma to the testicles. It is very harmful to health and may even be life-threatening. It can also seriously affect normal fertility. The testicles will not heal on their own after being injured, so timely treatment and examination are required. At the same time, it is also necessary to observe the condition more and pay attention to care.

Can testicular injury heal on its own?

The testicle is one of the most important organs in the male body. Once injured, it will have a great impact on the patient's physical health. Severe cases may be life-threatening. Therefore, once testicular injury occurs, you must go to a regular hospital for treatment. Some patients are lucky enough to think that it is not serious and will slowly recover over time. However, testicular injury will not heal on its own.

1. Treatment

During the treatment of testicular injury, the testicles should be preserved as much as possible. Those with severe injury and shock should receive anti-shock treatment.

1. Clean the wound, remove necrotic tissue, repair sutures, and preserve testicular tissue as much as possible to maintain male function. If there is hematoma, it should be completely removed to avoid infection caused by hematoma. When bilateral testicles are injured, do not remove the testicles if the testicular artery is not damaged. If the testicles have been severed, consider in situ or ectopic testicular transplantation. If the scrotum is severely injured, perform scrotoplasty to wrap the testicles.

2. If there is blood swelling at the contusion site, apply cold compress immediately to reduce bleeding. Hold up and fix the testicle to relieve pain. If the blood swelling cannot be absorbed, it should be incised and drained. If the testicle is swollen and painful, a little white membrane can be incised to reduce the internal testicular pressure, but be alert to the occurrence of vas hernia.

3. For dislocation and torsion, the testicle should be repositioned and fixed as soon as possible. In addition to testicular fixation, the spermatic cord should also be properly fixed to prevent dislocation or torsion again. If the treatment is delayed and the testicle has become necrotic, the only option is to remove the testicle to avoid infection in the scrotum.

2. Prognosis

Many observations have confirmed that early surgical exploration can not only remove hematomas and prevent infection. Moreover, through testicular repair, the rate of orchiectomy is greatly reduced, thereby reducing the psychological burden of patients and infertility caused by autoimmune reactions. For example, among the 65 patients treated by Cass, 23 patients who received non-surgical treatment had orchiectomy due to delayed surgery, 5 of them, accounting for 22%. However, the orchiectomy rate for those who underwent early surgical exploration was only 7%. Villar also pointed out that 45% of patients who received non-surgical treatment were unsuccessful, and exploration was often delayed due to complications such as persistent pain and infection. 45% had orchiectomy, which was in sharp contrast to the 5% orchiectomy of those who underwent surgical exploration within 72 hours.

In fact, due to the special physiological structure of the testicles, they are generally not injured. However, if they are injured, they can be mainly divided into two factors: open injury and closed injury. The most common situation is trauma. The following is an introduction to the specific situation of testicular injury:

1. Classification by cause

(1) Open injuries: sharp instrument injuries, bite injuries, and iatrogenic injuries.

(2) Closure damage: blunt instrument damage, crushing damage, bump damage, etc.

2. According to the degree of testicular damage, the injuries are classified into no damage to the tunica vaginalis, partial testicular laceration, and testicular fragmentation.
