Bartholinostomy recurrence rate

Bartholinostomy recurrence rate

Bartholin's gland cysts often occur in women of childbearing age. Patients with Bartholin's gland cysts need to undergo Bartholin's gland ostomy. Relevant preparations should be made before the surgery. At the same time, special attention should be paid to hygiene issues after the surgery, because the recurrence rate of Bartholin's gland cysts is very high. In order to avoid recurrence, be sure to remember the following precautions after Bartholin's gland cyst ostomy.

Bartholin's gland cyst ostomy

Bartholin's gland cystostomy is used for the surgical treatment of Bartholin's gland cyst.

The Bartholin's glands are located in the lower 1/3 of the labia majora on both sides and are susceptible to infection due to their anatomical location.

Inflammation often occurs in women of childbearing age and is often caused by multiple bacterial infections.

The infection is mostly unilateral, with local redness, swelling and pain in the acute phase, obvious tenderness, fever, and enlarged inguinal lymph nodes. When abscesses form, the mass can reach the size of an egg, with fluctuations, thinning of the surface skin, and can rupture on its own.

The Bartholin's gland duct is blocked by inflammation, or pus is absorbed after acute inflammation, or the duct is damaged by trauma, which can lead to cyst formation. Repeated infection can cause it to gradually increase in size. Bartholin's gland cyst is separated from the vagina by the surrounding muscles of the vagina and the perineum, so the cyst often protrudes to the outside of the labia majora, has no adhesion to the vaginal wall, and has a certain degree of looseness within the labia majora.

Bartholin's gland cyst should be distinguished from intralabia majora inguinal hernia, which is connected to the inguinal ring. The swelling increases with increased abdominal pressure and can be reduced by manual reduction.

Simply incisional drainage of abscess can only temporarily relieve symptoms, and the incision often re-adhesions and causes recurrence.

Precautions after Bartholin's gland cyst ostomy

1. After the Bartholin's gland cyst surgery, you should pay attention to hygiene, change underwear frequently, strictly abstain from sexual intercourse, and avoid spicy and greasy food. It usually takes at least 2 weeks.

2. After the Bartholin's gland cyst surgery, you should pay attention to keeping the vulva clean and hygienic, do not wear synthetic underwear, change and wash underwear frequently, and avoid contamination from vaginal secretions, urine, and feces.

3. After the Bartholin's cyst surgery, the dressing should be changed every day. If there is no pus in the cyst cavity and the drainage strip is relatively clean, it is fine. If there are symptoms of pain, redness and swelling, it means that the inflammation has not completely subsided, and the dressing should be changed or anti-inflammatory treatment should be continued.
