How to insert a catheter for prostate hyperplasia

Prostatic hyperplasia is a common male prostate disease. When treating prostatic hyperplasia, if it is more serious, a catheter may be required for treatment. Most professional doctors, especially urologists, can perform catheterization smoothly, but for third-degree prostatic hyperplasia, catheterization is more difficult. If the catheterization is not smooth, it should not be forced.

Prostatic hyperplasia is a disease that occurs frequently in middle-aged and elderly men. When prostatic hyperplasia occurs, the gland grows in size, causing pressure on the urethra and bladder. The patient will experience symptoms such as abnormal urination, and may induce urinary tract and bladder symptoms. The following are treatment methods:

1. Drug therapy:

α1 receptor blocker: This drug is the most commonly used drug for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia. It can relax the prostate and urethral smooth muscles, relax the bladder outlet, and relieve bladder obstruction. However, it can produce some adverse reactions, such as headache, dizziness, low blood pressure, drowsiness, etc.

5α-reductase inhibitors: The principle of this type of drug is to reduce the activity of 5α-reductase, thereby reducing the dihydrotestosterone content in the prostate. In this way, the size of the prostate will shrink and urinary retention will be alleviated. The side effects of this type of drug include decreased libido and ejaculation disorders.

Combination therapy of α1 receptor blockers and 5α reductase inhibitors: When these two drugs are used in combination, they can achieve significant therapeutic effects. If surgery is required, taking these two drugs first can greatly reduce the risk of surgery. However, when α1 receptor blockers and 5α reductase inhibitors are used in combination, there will be more side effects.

2. Surgical treatment:

Patients with less severe prostate hyperplasia do not need surgery, because with the advancement of medicine, the efficacy of drugs has improved. However, some patients have to use surgery when drug treatment is ineffective. Especially when prostate hyperplasia induces serious complications such as hematuria, urinary tract infection, bladder stones, etc., surgery must be used.

Common surgical procedures for treating prostate hyperplasia include open surgery, endoscopic surgery, laser surgery, etc. Among them, laser surgery has better efficacy, can reduce bleeding and complications, and greatly reduces the pain of patients. Minimally invasive treatment is also an advanced treatment method that has emerged in recent years, and its efficacy is also worthy of recognition.
