Why does sperm turn green?

Green sperm color must be watched carefully, because the green color phenomenon may remind male friends that their reproductive health is affected by some disease or inflammation. It is necessary to identify the cause and treat the symptoms to protect their reproductive health.

1. Semen volume

Normal semen volume is 2-6 ml. If the amount of semen discharged at one time is more than 6 ml, it is considered that the amount of semen is too much. If the amount of semen discharged at one time is less than 1.0 ml, it is considered that the amount of semen is too little. The amount of semen is related to the length of abstinence. The longer the abstinence period, the more semen there is, and vice versa. Therefore, when we usually do a semen test, we will instruct the patient to wait 4-5 days after sex before collecting semen, so that the test results are relatively accurate.

2. Appearance of Semen

The semen just ejaculated is jelly-like, grayish white or grayish yellow. When the semen liquefies, it becomes translucent milky white or milky yellow. The semen of those who have not ejaculated for a long time is darker. The semen of the elderly is mostly dark yellow.

3. The smell of semen

Normal semen has a special fishy smell, which some people compare to the smell of chestnut flowers, while others describe it as the smell of poppy. This smell is caused by the oxidation of polyamines in prostatic fluid. The longer the abstinence period, the stronger the smell.

4. Semen liquefaction time

The liquefaction of semen is the process of semen changing from a jelly state to a liquid state after ejaculation. Normal semen liquefaction time is 30 minutes. If it exceeds 30 minutes, the semen is not liquefied or liquefaction is incomplete.

5. Semen viscosity

After liquefaction, semen is in the form of a viscous liquid. Use a straw to pick up semen and let it drip naturally. If the semen drips in small, discontinuous drops, the viscosity is normal. If there are long (2 cm) mucus threads, the viscosity is too high. If semen does not liquefy, liquefies incompletely, or is too viscous, it will affect the activity of sperm and cause infertility.
