Can men with chronic prostatitis have children?

Childbirth is a necessary process for a family, and the fruit of love can make life happier, but some male friends suffer from chronic prostatitis and worry about infertility. Facts prove that this is not the case. Chronic prostatitis can be completely controlled, and it is not a dream to make your wife pregnant.

1. In chronic bacterial prostatitis, the prostatic fluid contains a large number of bacteria, bacterial toxins and inflammatory secretions. The inflammation can also affect the adjacent genital organs such as the epididymis and seminal vesicles, and the epididymis is where sperm matures. If there is inflammation in the epididymis and other places, the above harmful substances will not only consume the nutrients and oxygen in the semen, but also affect the viability and vitality of sperm, and affect the maturation of sperm, making it difficult for sperm to move forward to the egg. If the sperm and egg do not meet, there is no "kiss of life", and how can there be pregnancy. Therefore, it can be said that chronic bacterial prostatitis is the most likely to cause male infertility. However, the proportion of bacterial prostatitis in chronic prostatitis is very low, only about 5% to 10%, so the impact is limited. Not to mention that acute prostatitis is even rarer and less common.

2. What about chronic aseptic prostatitis? During prostatitis, the amount of glandular secretion in the prostate may decrease, resulting in a decrease in the amount of semen, which is not conducive to the survival and activity of sperm. In addition, due to the decrease in the activity of the liquefaction factor-enzyme in the prostatic fluid and the increase in the coagulation factor, it is difficult for the semen to liquefy after being discharged from the body, and it remains in a jelly state for a long time, thereby delaying the liquefaction time of the semen. The so-called semen does not liquefy or liquefies incompletely, which hinders the activity of sperm, or reduces the activity of sperm due to the effort of sperm movement and excessive energy consumption, and even causes an increase in sperm mortality; however, the author has encountered many cases in which the sperm activity level A is greater than 25% despite incomplete liquefaction, and the woman still gets pregnant soon.

3. When you have prostatitis, the pH of semen may change, making it acidic or alkaline. When the pH of semen exceeds the minimum requirement that sperm can adapt to, sperm motility and viability will decrease, which may also have a negative impact on fertility.

4. There are some biologically active substances in prostatic fluid that are closely related to the reproductive process, such as fibroblasts that affect the liquefaction of semen, hyaluronidase that determines the ability of sperm to penetrate the egg, and lecithin bodies that provide the necessary nutrients and energy for the activity of sperm in semen. During inflammation, the production of these biologically active substances decreases or their activity decreases, which will affect the survival and quality of sperm to some extent.

5. Chronic prostatitis may also stimulate the body to produce anti-sperm antibodies. Anti-sperm antibodies not only affect the motility of sperm and the activity of sperm enzymes, but also affect the combination of sperm and egg, interfere with the implantation of fertilized eggs, and affect the development of embryos.

Therefore, theoretically speaking, when the prostate is inflamed, even if it is sterile, due to the congestion and edema of the local gland, poor blood circulation, and the inability to excrete metabolic products in time, it will affect the quality and composition of the prostatic fluid, and in turn affect the quality of semen (prostatic fluid accounts for about 1/3 of the semen volume), thus possibly causing infertility.

However, chronic prostatitis can be completely controlled and is not an incurable disease. After treatment, sperm density and motility can be restored to normal, making it possible for your wife to become pregnant.
