What is low blood sugar? Several symptoms of low blood sugar

Blood sugar levels are related to a person's health. In life, we sometimes see some people often experience dizziness, pale complexion, hunger and other symptoms due to low blood sugar. Low blood sugar may be due to high consumption of the human body or some diseases. People who often have low blood sugar should pay attention to distinguish them carefully.

1. Causes of hypoglycemia

1: The blood sugar level in the human body is lower in summer, first of all because the intake of sugar in summer is reduced and the consumption is increased. Because the weather is hot in summer, people generally have a poor appetite and tend to eat light food, which is generally low in sugar, just like taking a low-sugar diet. In addition, the weather is hot in summer, although people's activities have not increased, they often sweat continuously, and the energy consumption mainly for heat dissipation is greater, and the calorie consumption mainly comes from the blood sugar in the body.

2: In addition, the daytime hours are longer in the summer, and it is easy to lack sleep in the hot weather, which causes the body to consume heat, the metabolism in the body is vigorous, and the relative consumption of blood sugar also increases. Therefore, people's blood sugar levels are always low in the summer, especially for diabetic patients.

2. Common symptoms of hypoglycemia

1: Insulinoma: Insulinoma can produce too much insulin, which can lower blood sugar. Almost all insulinomas are located in the pancreas. The tumors are evenly distributed in the head, body, and tail of the pancreas. The tumors are generally small and hidden, making them difficult to find. Most insulinomas are benign, but they can also become malignant. The onset of the disease is very slow, and patients often go unnoticed for many years. The main symptom is recurrent hypoglycemia, which is mostly seen in the early morning before breakfast, and a few can also be seen before lunch or dinner. Hunger, fatigue, mental stimulation, drinking, menstruation, fever, etc. can induce hypoglycemia. The condition gradually becomes more severe, and the frequency of attacks becomes more and more frequent, from one or two attacks a year to several times a day, and the duration of attacks varies. After eating sugar, the symptoms will quickly decrease or disappear. The best treatment is to remove the tumor.

2: Hypoglycemia due to liver disease: The liver is the main organ for storing, transporting and regulating sugar, just like the "sugar bank" of the human body. When there is a lot of glucose, the liver will store it, and when it is insufficient, it will take out the store for use. If the liver cells are damaged on a large scale and their functions are insufficient, it will cause hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia caused by liver disease can be acute or chronic, and is more common when fasting, hungry, or exercising. Hypoglycemia will naturally decrease or disappear after liver disease improves.

3: Early diabetes: Type 2 diabetes reactively causes hypoglycemia in the early stages of the disease. Symptoms of hypoglycemia generally appear 3 to 5 hours after eating. The patient's fasting blood sugar level is slightly high or at the upper limit of normal values, which is difficult for the patient to detect and must be diagnosed through an oral glucose tolerance test.

4: Functional hypoglycemia: Patients with functional hypoglycemia do not have any disease after examination, which may be due to unstable sugar metabolism regulation. Patients are more common in middle-aged women, and the condition is closely related to emotional instability, mental stimulation, and anxiety. Symptoms of hypoglycemia often appear 2 to 4 hours after breakfast, and rarely after lunch and dinner. Each attack lasts for 15 to 20 minutes and then relieves on its own. The condition will not continue to develop, and the symptoms disappear immediately after eating sugar. This type of hypoglycemia does not require special treatment, but other causes must be excluded before it can be identified as functional hypoglycemia.

Three: Low blood sugar is harmful to the human body

Especially for elderly patients, hypoglycemia is more harmful than hyperglycemia. The diet should be high in protein, fat, and low in carbohydrates, and should be based on small and frequent meals to reduce the stimulation on insulin secretion.
