Why are your hands and feet numb? Check here!

I believe that many working men are familiar with the feeling of numbness in hands and feet, especially those who sit for a long time. Some men do not take it seriously and think that it is caused by physical fatigue. In fact, frequent numbness in hands and feet may be caused by a certain disease!

Cervical spondylosis

Due to the compression of the cervical nerve roots or cervical cord by cervical vertebrae hypertrophy or cervical disc degeneration and protrusion, it can cause numbness and pain in unilateral or bilateral fingers, and gradually develop to the upper arm and forearm, and even cause upper limb movement disorders.

Common cervical spondylosis will cause headaches, dizziness, numbness and pain in the limbs. Don't worry, it can be relieved by taking active and effective methods. Western medicine is not very effective in treating such symptoms. In addition to oral medications, the only option is surgery. In general, cervical spondylosis is not recommended because the neck area has dense nerves. There are great risks, and massage and traction cannot relieve the pain.

Neuroinflammation

Peripheral nerve lesions most commonly involve the femoral nerve, sciatic nerve, median nerve, radial nerve, ulnar nerve, sural nerve and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. Early symptoms are mainly sensory disturbances, but electrophysiological examinations often show that both motor and sensory nerves are involved. Clinically, there are symmetrical pain and sensory abnormalities, and symptoms in the lower limbs are more common than in the upper limbs. Sensory abnormalities include numbness, ants walking, crawling, fever, and electric shock-like sensations, which often extend from the distal toes to above the knees. Patients have a feeling of wearing socks and gloves. Severe cases of sensory disorders may cause lower limb arthritis and ulcers. The pain is stabbing, burning, and drilling, as if it is deep in the bone marrow. Sometimes there is tactile hypersensitivity, and even the quilt cannot be tolerated and must be propped up. When the motor nerves are involved, muscle strength often decreases to varying degrees, and in the late stage there is malnutrition-related muscle atrophy. Peripheral nerve lesions can be bilateral or unilateral, symmetrical or asymmetrical, but bilateral symmetry is more common.

Lumbar spondylosis

Lumbar spondylosis only causes numbness in the lower limbs, and will not cause numbness in the upper limbs. This is mainly caused by compression and other stimulation of the nerves in the corresponding segments of the lesion. Because the nerve roots and their courses in the lumbar spinal canal are mainly distributed in the pelvic cavity and lower limbs, while the nerves and their nerve roots running in the upper limbs are mainly located in the cervical spinal canal. Therefore, if a lumbar spondylosis patient also has numbness in the hands and feet, the occurrence of cervical spondylosis should be considered. The main reason for numbness in the hands and feet is the degenerative changes in the cervical and lumbar spine. Degenerative changes in the cervical and lumbar spine can lead to herniation of the intervertebral disc or hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the joint processes in the cervical and lumbar spine. This may compress the nerve roots of the upper and lower limb nerves in the spinal canal, or cause numbness in the hands and feet due to compression and stimulation of the nerve roots in the intervertebral foramen caused by bone hyperplasia in the vertebral joint.
