If adenocarcinoma has nodules, erosions, ulcers or cauliflower-like changes on the surface, is paler than the surrounding mucosa, has a broad base and the surrounding gastric mucosa is thicker, it is mostly malignant. Leiomyoma is the most common mesenchymal tumor, often small, with clear boundaries, does not invade surrounding tissues, and can be treated by local excision.
