Is eczema serious? How can it be treated?

Is eczema a serious disease? According to experts, although eczema occurs on the skin, it can affect organs throughout the body and even cause great damage to joints. Therefore, no matter what type of eczema you have, you should receive regular treatment in time. Otherwise, it will not only cause great harm to the body, but also cause great psychological stress to the patient.

1. Acute eczema:

It can occur anywhere on the body, and is commonly seen on the head, face, behind the ears, breasts, distal limbs and genitals, and is often distributed symmetrically. The damage is polymorphic. The skin first appears as a number of densely packed punctate erythema and millet-sized papules and papule-like rashes (with a flushed base and mild swelling). They quickly turn into small blisters, which break and form punctate erosions and scabs. The subjective symptoms are severe itching and burning pain. Scratching or washing with hot water often causes the erosions to spread further to the surrounding areas, making the boundaries of the skin damage unclear. If properly treated, the inflammation is alleviated, desquamation occurs, and the rash can subside within 2-3 weeks. If not properly treated, it is easy to develop into subacute and chronic eczema.

2. Subacute eczema:

It is a transitional state between acute and chronic eczema. When the acute inflammation symptoms such as redness, swelling and exudation of acute eczema are alleviated, the lesions include small papules, a few papules and rashes, small blisters, mild erosion, scabs and scaling. During the onset of subacute eczema, subjective itching still exists, and the course of the disease can last for several weeks. If the disease is prolonged and not cured, it can develop into chronic eczema; if it is not properly handled, the symptoms will rapidly deteriorate and may even reverse to acute eczema.

3. Chronic eczema:

It is usually transformed from acute and subacute eczema. The damage is chronic inflammation. The skin of the affected area is thickened, the rash is dark red, the surface is rough with scaling and crusting, lichenification and cracking, pigmentation, scratches, punctate exudation, blood crusts and scaling. The skin damage is mostly limited, the itching is severe or paroxysmal, and the itching is particularly severe when exposed to heat or when sleeping. The course of the disease is prolonged and can last for months or years.
