What are the principles and methods of laser treatment for body odor?

The sweat secreted by the apocrine glands of patients with bromhidrosis is decomposed by bacteria on the skin surface, mainly staphylococci, to produce unsaturated fatty acids. The main method for treating bromhidrosis is surgical treatment, such as laser therapy. So what is the principle of laser treatment?

The principle and method of laser treatment for underarm odor:

The treatment goal is achieved mainly through the thermal effect of laser, which causes the apocrine sweat glands, hair follicles and attached tissues to dehydrate, denature, coagulate and necrotize the proteins, and lose their secretory function.

Before the operation, the armpit hair is shaved, routine disinfection is performed, and local anesthesia is performed by infiltration with 1% lidocaine solution. Either semiconductor 980nm laser or Nd:YAG laser can be used for treatment.

1. Laser treatment of axillary odor: The patient lies on his back with the affected upper limb bent and the elbow facing upward. The laser blade is 2 to 3 cm away from the skin. A medium-energy laser beam is used to make small holes in the axillary hair area. The exposure time is 3 to 4 seconds, and the depth should be deep enough to reach the subcutaneous area. The holes are 3 to 4 mm apart and evenly distributed throughout the axillary hair area to destroy the sweat glands as much as possible.

2. Nd:YAG laser treatment method for axillary odor: Under local anesthesia, hold a 25-watt optical fiber and insert it vertically into the skin in the axillary hair area, like planting rice seedlings, and make evenly arranged vaporization holes with a distance of 3-4 mm between the holes.

Post-operative care:

After laser treatment, the skin in the armpit area may fall off, and the healing time takes 2 to 3 weeks. Especially in summer, proper treatment should be taken after the operation. Apply moist burn ointment and cover with dressings after the operation. Change the dressing once a day.

Local irradiation with He-Ne laser can reduce tissue reaction, prevent infection, and accelerate wound healing. The best time to treat axillary odor is late autumn, winter, and early spring. Nd:YAG laser treatment of axillary odor has mild postoperative reaction, high efficacy, and superior treatment.
