What are the sequelae of depression in men?

Depression is a mental illness, often caused by great psychological stress. Once you suffer from depression, it will cause great harm to your body and mind, and in severe cases it will endanger your life. Therefore, family and friends should pay attention to patients with depression. So do you know what the symptoms of depression are and what are the sequelae?

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of depression should be mainly based on medical history, clinical symptoms, course of disease, physical examination and laboratory examination. It is generally not difficult to diagnose typical cases. At present, the internationally used diagnostic standards are ICD-10 and DSM-IV. ICD-10 is mainly used in China, which refers to the first episode of depression and recurrent depression, excluding bipolar depression. Patients usually have typical symptoms such as low mood, loss of interest and pleasure, lack of energy or fatigue. Other common symptoms are as follows.

① Reduced ability to concentrate and pay attention;

② Lower self-evaluation;

③ Guilt and worthlessness (even in mild episodes);

④Thinking that the future is bleak and pessimistic;

⑤ Thoughts or behaviors of self-harm or suicide;

⑥Sleep disorders;

⑦ Decreased appetite.

Sequelae of depression

1. Functional impairment: After the onset of the disease, patients will experience slow thinking and a significant decrease in mental work efficiency. Due to the influence of depression, patients are prone to pessimism and have no interest in anything around them. Patients are likely to experience listlessness, fatigue, loss of appetite, pessimism, etc.

2. Increased burden: If someone in the family suffers from depression, the quality of life of the entire family will be affected. Because depression is recurrent, patients will seek medical treatment repeatedly, self-harm, and commit suicide. According to surveys, among patients with recurrent depression, 1 in 7 will commit suicide, and 70% of suicide cases are caused by depression.

3. Impact on the brain: Depression can also cause dizziness, memory loss and sleep disorders. Sleep disorders generally manifest in the form of insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, early awakening, and disrupted sleep patterns. If not treated in time, it can also induce the occurrence of other diseases in patients.
