The composition and efficacy of licorice and dried ginger soup

We all know that ginger has the effect of removing dampness and warming the stomach, but we don’t know much about licorice. Licorice is a traditional Chinese medicine that is very effective in relieving cough. So what is the effect of licorice and dried ginger soup?

1. Composition:

2 liang of dried ginger, 4 liang of roasted licorice

2. Meaning:

Bleeding can be divided into two types from the perspective of cold and heat: heat forces blood to flow, and yang deficiency causes yin to flow. Licorice and dried ginger soup is suitable for the latter. Dried ginger stops bleeding, and roasted licorice restores yin and stops bleeding.

3. Application:

If the bleeding is mainly caused by deficiency and cold, and the effect of cold medicine is not good, you can use dried ginger.

Application symptoms proposed by Xu Gongyan: pale tongue, moist or shiny coating, thin and smooth pulse with slight or no string, abdominal distension and vomiting, constipation or loose stools (it should be noted that a shiny tongue without coating may be a deficiency-cold syndrome, which may also occur in alcoholics)

Note: If you feel irritable after taking the medicine, you can add licorice and ginger. If you are weak in qi, add astragalus. If you are weak and cold, add cinnamon. If you vomit blood, eat less salty food (salt hurts the blood).

4. Selection of Ancient Books:

"Medical Laws": Ancient prescriptions for treating dragon and thunder fire often use the method of Guifu to lead the fire back to the origin. However, it can only be used temporarily for symptoms of violent bleeding, not permanently.

Cao's Must-Use Prescriptions: Vomiting blood requires boiling ginger and licorice to make a soup and taking it, or taking the four physical decoctions, which will cure it. If you take raw rehmannia root, bamboo shavings, and lotus root juice, the diarrhea will be far away.

"Zhi Zhi Fang": It is used to treat stomach cold that cannot lead the Qi back to the Yuan, and cannot restrain the blood in men and women with various types of bleeding due to deficiency. Add jujube to treat cold pain in the spleen, vomiting and loss of appetite.

Qin Boyi: "When blood syndrome first occurs, it is forbidden to use large doses of cooling blood to stop bleeding, to prevent blood stasis... Long-term use of cold medicines can easily damage the spleen yang, and when the spleen yang is damaged, the blood cannot be directed back to the meridians."
