Be careful of the acute symptoms of AIDS, as you may suffer from multiple diseases in the later stages

AIDS is a very common disease in the world, especially in some underdeveloped areas. The spread of AIDS can be described as crazy. This disease mainly refers to the symptoms caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) invading the human body and destroying the immune function. What are the symptoms of acute AIDS?

Acute symptoms

Some acutely infected people develop cold-like symptoms within 6 days to 6 weeks after being infected with HIV, such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, pharyngitis, rash, myalgia or joint pain, diarrhea, headache, weight loss, etc., which last for an average of two weeks and generally disappear on their own without special treatment. Of course, the occurrence of these conditions does not necessarily mean that you are infected with the HIV virus, because other diseases can also cause similar symptoms.

Asymptomatic infection

After the acute phase, the infected person enters the asymptomatic infection period. Except for a few infected people who can be found to have "persistent generalized lymphadenopathy" (PGL), there are no other clinical symptoms or signs. PGL refers to the enlargement of at least two non-adjacent lymph nodes in addition to the inguinal lymph nodes, with a diameter of more than 1 cm. The cervical and axillary lymph nodes are most common. The asymptomatic infection period for adults is generally 8 to 10 years.

Pre-AIDS

In the early stages of AIDS, infected people will experience persistent or intermittent systemic symptoms and "minor" opportunistic infections. Systemic symptoms include persistent systemic lymphadenopathy, fatigue, anorexia, fever, weight loss, night sweats, thrombocytopenia, etc. Minor infections are mostly manifested in infections of the oral cavity and skin mucosa, including oral candidiasis, gingivitis, fungal skin infections, herpes zoster, folliculitis, pruritic dermatitis, etc.

One or more AIDS-defining illnesses

As time goes by, HIV becomes more and more destructive to the human immune system. It mainly destroys a type of immune cell called CD4 lymphocytes. When the immune system is damaged to a certain extent, the infected person will become ill and develop one or more AIDS-indicating diseases, such as pneumonia, esophagitis, lymphoma, pulmonary or extrapulmonary tuberculosis, and HIV-related wasting syndrome.
