What is thyroid nodule? What are the clinical manifestations?

In daily life, people need to treat thyroid nodules based on a detailed understanding of the disease. So, what is thyroid nodules?

What is thyroid nodule?

Thyroid nodules refer to one or more abnormal tissue structures in the thyroid gland caused by radiation exposure and other reasons. Thyroid nodules are very common clinically. Thyroid nodules are mostly benign, and malignant nodules account for only about 0.1% of thyroid nodules. Thyroid nodules include benign nodules, toxic nodular thyroiditis, simple nodular thyroiditis, eccentric lymphocytic thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis and other diseases. Thyroid nodules are mostly benign and painful.

Clinical manifestations:

The main symptoms are thyroid nodules or lumps, and thyroid enlargement. Apart from these, most patients with thyroid nodules have no clinical symptoms. Thyroid nodules can be found through self-palpation or physical examination, or they can seek medical treatment due to thyroid enlargement and obtain the diagnosis through physical examination or imaging examinations such as B-ultrasound.

A small number of people develop a rapidly enlarging local thyroid mass, accompanied by pain. A small number of patients with combined hyperthyroidism may have palpitations, sweating, hand tremors, and weight loss as the main clinical manifestations; or may have obvious symptoms of fear of cold, fatigue, and edema due to combined hypothyroidism; when combined with acute or subacute thyroiditis, the thyroid and surrounding areas may experience obvious pain and tenderness; when the nodules compress the surrounding tissues, corresponding clinical manifestations such as hoarseness, breath holding, and difficulty swallowing may occur.
