What are the characteristics of puberty in boys

Puberty is a long slow period of transition from childhood to adulthood. During this period, boys' growth and development are more prominent. Generally speaking, boys have three characteristics during puberty: male pubic hair, armpit hair, and male genitals.

The beginning of male pubic hair

When boys enter puberty, the first thing that appears is male pubic hair. They are around 11 to 12 years old on average. Male pubic hair first appears on both sides of the penis, and then slowly spreads to the vulva. The color will also change from light to dark, and finally become thicker and curlier. Armpit hair will also start to grow one to one and a half years after male pubic hair appears.

Armpit hair follows

Boys start to grow beards about a year after their armpit hair grows out, but it may be earlier than this time. Due to the metabolism and function of androgens, boys start to develop Adam's knots at around the age of 12. From the age of 13, boys enter the "voice change period", and their voices begin to gradually become wider. It is not until around the age of 18 that the entire process of Adam's knot growth and voice change is basically completed. In addition, during puberty, more than half of boys will also have "chest development", the main features of which are nipple protrusions and lumps under the nipples. Some boys may also have mild hidden pain, but this condition generally lasts for half a year to a year and then disappears on its own.

Rapid growth of male genitals

The penis is not only a sign of a man, but also a man's reproductive organ. Before puberty, the length of a boy's penis is generally no more than 5 cm, but its growth rate is faster between the ages of 12 and 13, and by the end of puberty, the penis can grow to about 12 cm. In addition, after puberty, the foreskin of the penis will gradually move back and expose the glans penis. However, many men still have a long foreskin even in adulthood. This is a normal condition. As long as you pay attention to hygiene and clean it regularly, it will not affect your health, let alone your sexual function.
