Why is there a red spot on the glans?

I believe that many men have had this experience. When taking a bath, they find a red spot on their glans. There is no discomfort at first, but it will develop into itching or edema. Many men do not know what causes such symptoms. In fact, this symptom is likely caused by glansitis. Then let's take a look at why the red spot grows on the glans.

Types of glansitis in men

Acute superficial galactitis

It is usually caused by friction of underwear, trauma, or local irritation from soap or detergent. It manifests as edema, erythema, exudation, erosion, secondary infection with purulent secretions, easy formation of ulcers, and spontaneous pain.

Annular erosive glans

The lesions of the glans and foreskin are ring-shaped, or the rings have cheese-like smegma, which can easily break into shallow ulcers over time. If the ring-shaped features are lost, it is difficult to distinguish from superficial glansitis. This disease can exist alone or as a mucosal symptom of Reiter syndrome.

Cytomegalic balanitis

It is more common in middle-aged people. It is a single or multiple chronic inflammations that last for a long time. The damage is plaque-like, with a smooth or scaly or moist surface, and the infiltration is more obvious. The boundary is clear and not easy to break. Small spots like chili powder can be seen on the surface. The appearance is difficult to distinguish from the proliferative erythema of the glans.

Treatment of glansitis

1. Keep the area clean and hygienic to avoid irritation. If the patient is not a fungus, you can apply corticosteroid cream when there is dryness and desquamation; if there is erosion and exudation, you can use liquid medicine to clean and wet the affected area. The ulcer surface should be changed every day and physical therapy should be performed.

2. Patients with obvious infection, fever and swollen lymph nodes can be treated with antibiotics.

3. For those with clear etiology, special treatment should be given to the cause. For example, for Candida infection, oral antifungal drugs and topical application of nystatin or clotrimazole cream can be used.

4. For patients with prepuce that is too long, circumcision should be performed after the acute inflammation is under control.

From this we can see that the red spots on the glans are most likely due to balanitis. The occurrence of balanitis is closely related to the friction of underwear and some external trauma. You won’t feel anything at the beginning, but later it will develop into an ulcer and cause pain. Once such a situation is discovered, male friends must seek treatment as soon as possible.
