For what types of conditions is transurethral prostatectomy suitable?

What types of conditions are suitable for transurethral prostatectomy?

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a relatively safe, effective and painless surgical method. It involves inserting an electrosurgical resectoscope through the urethra to remove the prostate protruding into the urethra under direct vision. Generally, suprapubic bladder puncture is performed before the operation to drain the lavage fluid.

The following patients are not suitable for this surgery and are considered contraindications:

1. Systemic hemorrhagic diseases.

2. Severe diabetes.

3. Mental disorder and inability to cooperate with treatment.

4. Severe urinary tract infection: the infection should be properly controlled before this operation.

5. Combined with larger bladder stones, tumors, and diverticula.

6. Cardiovascular disease, including heart failure or uncontrolled heart failure with severe hypertension.

7. Lung diseases, such as severe bronchial asthma and lung infections.

8. Obvious lung function insufficiency and water and electrolyte disorder.

9. Renal insufficiency and water electrolyte disorder.

This surgery is generally suitable for the following types of patients:

1. Prostatic venous bleeding, causing hematuria.

2. Prostatic hyperplasia combined with bladder stones, diverticula and bladder tumors.

3. Patients with prostatic hyperplasia who have suffered from chronic prostatitis.

4. Urinary retention caused by prostatic hyperplasia, including acute urinary retention and recurrent urinary retention.

5. Patients with obvious obstruction symptoms, no residual urine in the bladder, and abnormal urine flow rate test.

6. Increased residual urine volume in the bladder leads to kidney function damage.

7. Although patients with the above diseases are not suitable for this surgery, it is not an absolute contraindication. As long as other diseases are well controlled and conditions are suitable, transurethral prostatectomy can also be performed.
