Sperm survival rate

Sperm survival rate

In order to complete the task of reproduction, men produce sperm and women produce eggs. Only when the sperm and egg successfully combine to form a fertilized egg does a life truly begin. However, due to the unhealthy lifestyles of many people, more and more couples are suffering from infertility problems. Some problems mainly occur in men, and the survival rate of male sperm may not be particularly high.

If a man's sperm survival rate is not particularly high, it will affect the chances of successful conception with the egg. In this case, the sperm survival rate becomes very important and directly affects whether conception can be successful.

Sperm survival rate refers to the proportion of live sperm in a drop of semen. Normal sperm survival rate>85-90%, can move in a certain direction, climb 5cm, and abnormal sperm<20%. Male fertility is directly proportional to sperm count and sperm motility, and inversely proportional to the number of abnormal sperm; if the semen test results show that the semen volume is less than 2ml, the sperm count is less than 60 million/ml, or the normal sperm morphology is less than 60%, the sperm survival rate is less than 60%, and the sperm motility is below Ⅱ, it will have a direct impact on fertility.

The diagnosis of low sperm survival rate is mainly based on routine semen analysis and medical history. It is required to abstain from sex for 3 to 7 days and then masturbate to collect semen. After more than 3 consecutive routine semen analysis, if the sperm forward movement (a+b grade) is less than 50% or the sperm with fast straight forward movement is less than 25%, the sperm density is greater than 20~106/mL, and other parameters are normal or basically normal, it can be diagnosed as asthenozoospermia. Or if the sperm motility is less than 50% 1 hour after ejaculation, and the laboratory or other auxiliary examinations can find reproductive tract infection, or other diseases that affect sperm motility, it can be diagnosed as asthenozoospermia.

There are many reasons why men's sperm survival rate is not very high. The most common one is that the male genitals may be inflamed. Another point is that the male testicular development is restricted. To find out the specific reason why men's sperm survival rate is not very high, patients still need to go to a regular hospital for examination and treatment.
