Is it normal for sperm to be like jelly?

It is abnormal for sperm to be like jelly. Normal sperm is colorless and odorless, and there will be some sticky liquid. If it appears in the shape of jelly, it reflects that your sperm has abnormal performance. This phenomenon should be dealt with in time, especially for some male friends who are planning to get pregnant in the near future. It should not be ignored to prevent the symptoms of sperm reduction in the future.

Low sperm count: Oligospermia is when the number of sperm in semen is lower than that of a normal healthy fertile man. It is now considered that a sperm count of less than 20 million per milliliter is oligospermia. However, clinically, it is often accompanied by changes such as low sperm motility, poor forward motility, and high sperm deformity rate. At this time, it is called asthenospermia. Oligospermia is a common symptom of male infertility.

Too many dead sperm: Necrospermia refers to the situation where all sperm are dead after multiple semen examinations. Under normal circumstances, within one hour of the semen being discharged from the body, the normal viable sperm should be more than 70%. If the dead sperm exceeds 40%, conception will be affected. The sperm survival time should maintain a survival rate of more than 20% for 6 hours. If there are no viable sperm within 6 hours, it can cause infertility.

Sperm abnormalities include:

1. Oligospermia and hyperspermia: Generally, the normal sperm count in one semen is 20 million to 200 million/ml. A sperm count below 20 million/ml is oligospermia, and a sperm count exceeding 300 million/ml is hyperspermia.

2. Azoospermia: If no sperm is found in three semen examinations, it is azoospermia. Azoospermia is divided into two types: congenital azoospermia and obstructive azoospermia. The former refers to the atrophy and degeneration of testicular spermatogenic cells, which cannot produce sperm; the latter refers to the testicles being able to produce sperm, but the vas deferens is blocked and cannot be discharged.

3. Necrozoospermia: The survival rate of sperm in semen decreases. If more than 40% of dead sperm are found in semen examination, it is called necrospermia, also known as excessive necrospermia. However, if the number of dead sperm increases artificially due to improper examination methods or failure to collect semen according to normal methods, it is called pseudonecrospermia, which must be identified.

4. Sperm abnormality: The sperm in semen is more than 20% abnormal. The abnormal sperm include abnormal shape of head, body and tail, or mixed deformity of head and body.

5. Sperm agglutination syndrome: Due to the presence of sperm antibodies, sperms self-agglutinate. If sperm agglutination is found in both sperm agglutination test and post-coital test, it is sperm agglutination syndrome, which must be distinguished from seminal vesicle non-liquefaction syndrome.

Abnormal sperm motility: Sperm motility can be classified into 5 levels, with level 0 being no motility; level 1 being poor motility, with the sperm only able to move or rotate in place; level 2 being moderate motility; level 4 being very good motility, with the sperm actively moving forward in a straight line; and level 3 being between level 2 and level 4, indicating good sperm motility.
