Can Nutcrackers be cured?

The nutcracker phenomenon, also known as left renal venous compression syndrome, is more common in men from puberty to around 40 years old. The onset in children is generally between 4 and 7 years old, and the most common age is between 13 and 16 years old. It is one of the common causes of non-renal hematuria in children. It is a clinical manifestation caused by the compression of the angle formed by the left renal vein running between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric aorta on its way to the inferior vena cava.

For patients whose symptoms have not been alleviated or have worsened after more than 2 years of observation or medical treatment, or who have symptoms such as backache, dizziness, fatigue, or kidney function damage, surgery should be chosen to eliminate the compression of the left renal vein and make the venous blood out of the kidney unobstructed. If you do not have the above symptoms, then you do not need treatment.

There is no specific treatment, and regular follow-up observation is required. Generally, with age, the increase of body fat and connective tissue at the intersection of the superior mesenteric aorta and the abdominal aorta, or the creation of collateral circulation, the hemorrhage situation will be improved enough, and the symptoms will be alleviated to a certain extent. Generally, the kidney function is normal, the growth and development are normal, and the patient can sign up for normal school activities. Those with more significant hematuria can be exempted from sports. Some authors believe that when there is a lot of hematuria and persistent pain, it is an indication for surgery. At this stage, there is no unified understanding of the treatment of NCS, including conservative treatment, interventional surgery and surgical treatment. Indications for surgical treatment include:

If the blood pressure has not been alleviated or has worsened after more than 2 years of observation or medical treatment, adult NCS patients can be treated more actively and observe for 6 to 12 months;

Patients with blood symptoms, such as anemia, flank pain, varicose veins, recurrent fatigue, headaches, anxiety, etc., which have affected their work or daily life;

Supplement the kidney function damage and eliminate other causes.
