Occult blood refers to the presence of increased red blood cells in routine urine examination. In a small number, it can be called urine occult blood, in which the urine red blood cells (RBC) item in the routine urine examination form is marked with "+" or "-". Generally, when the red blood cells are normal, the urine red blood cell column is negative, indicated by a - sign; when the red blood cells increase, that is, urine occult blood occurs, it is urine occult blood positive, indicated by a +. If urine occult blood is positive, it indicates that the examiner may have diseases such as urinary tract tumors and nephritis infections.

Occult blood in urine alone cannot be used as a basis for diagnosing a disease, because normal people may also have occult blood in urine under normal circumstances, but normal occult blood in urine is negative. Normal urine contains very few red blood cells, so occult blood in urine is negative. When the number of red blood cells in urine reaches a certain level, the result of routine urine examination will be positive.
