Prostatic hyperplasia is a common health problem among men. This problem will have a certain impact on the health and normal life of the patient. Of course, prostatic hyperplasia can be effectively treated in some ways, and Western medicine treatment is one of them. Below, I will introduce to you the more commonly used Western medicines for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia! 1. α-receptor blockers for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia It relaxes the smooth muscle and relieves the bladder outlet motility obstruction by blocking the adrenergic receptors distributed on the surface of the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck. α-receptor blockers are suitable for patients with prostatic hyperplasia with lower urinary tract symptoms. Tamsulosin, doxazosin, alfuzosin and terazosin are recommended for the drug treatment of prostatic hyperplasia. Naftopidil can be selected for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia. Prazosin and the non-selective receptor blocker phentermine are not recommended for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia. 2. 5-α-reductase inhibitors for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia 5-α reductase inhibitors inhibit the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone in the body, thereby reducing the content of dihydrotestosterone in the prostate, achieving the therapeutic purpose of reducing the size of the prostate and improving dysuria. Currently, the 5-α reductase inhibitors used in my country include finasteride and epristeride. Finasteride is indicated for the treatment of patients with prostate hyperplasia who have an enlarged prostate and lower urinary tract symptoms. For patients at high risk of developing clinical progression to prostate hyperplasia I, finasteride can be used to prevent clinical progression of prostate hyperplasia, such as urinary retention or surgical treatment. Patients should be informed of the risk of developing clinical progression to prostate hyperplasia I if they do not receive treatment, and should also fully consider the side effects and longer course of treatment with finasteride. 3. Combined treatment for prostate hyperplasia Combination therapy refers to the combined use of α-receptor blockers and 5-α reductase inhibitors to treat prostate hyperplasia. ① Recommended opinion: Combination therapy is suitable for patients with prostate hyperplasia who have enlarged prostate volume and lower urinary tract symptoms. Patients with a greater risk of clinical progression of prostate hyperplasia are more suitable for combination therapy. Before using combination therapy, the specific patient's risk of clinical progression of prostate hyperplasia, the patient's willingness, economic situation, and the cost increase caused by combination therapy should be fully considered. |
