Pain under the right armpit in men

If a man has pain under the right armpit, it is likely caused by intercostal neuralgia. Intercostal neuralgia is common and dangerous to patients. It has a certain possibility of worsening. Therefore, after the problem of intercostal neuralgia occurs, it must be treated in time. Below, we will introduce the relevant knowledge of intercostal neuralgia in detail.

1. Symptoms and Signs

There are two types of intercostal neuralgia: secondary and primary. Thoracic vertebra degeneration, thoracic vertebra tuberculosis, thoracic vertebra injury, thoracic vertebra dura mater, tumor, ankylosing spondylitis and other diseases can cause radicular intercostal neuralgia; rib, diaphragm or pleural lesions can cause dry intercostal neuralgia. Primary intercostal neuralgia is rare. When intercostal neuralgia occurs, pain can be seen from back to front, radiating along the corresponding intercostal space in a semicircular shape; the pain is stabbing or burning. The pain worsens when coughing, taking a deep breath or sneezing. The pain often occurs in one nerve on one side. Physical examination revealed obvious tenderness beside the spinous processes of the thoracic vertebrae and in the intercostal spaces. Patients with typical radicular intercostal neuralgia had a positive neck flexion test. The distribution area of the affected nerves often showed signs of neurological damage such as hyperesthesia or hypoesthesia.

2. Treatment Methods

There is no special treatment for intercostal neuralgia. You can first take some drugs to nourish the nerves. If the pain worsens, you can use painkillers, physical therapy, and nerve blockade. However, pleurisy, lung disease, and thoracic vertebral lesions can all cause intercostal neuralgia. It is recommended that you go to the hospital to find out the cause.
