Blood streaks on the glans skin

Blood streaks on the glans skin

The penis is the male reproductive organ, and the safety of the penis is particularly important to men. But sometimes, some people's glans will inexplicably look bloody. When this happens, many people will be nervous about whether they are infected. But in fact, the redness of the glans skin is caused by the symptom of balanitis. Balanitis is extremely harmful to the male reproductive organs. Below is a detailed description of it and some treatment methods.

What is glansitis

What is glansitis?Glansitis refers to inflammation of the inner layer of the foreskin and the glans penis. A lipid substance secreted in the normal foreskin cavity can accumulate into smegma when the foreskin or foreskin is ruptured, which irritates the foreskin and glans penis and causes glansitis. Symptoms of glansitis include edema, exudation, erythema, erosion, secondary infection with purulent secretions, easy formation of ulcers, and spontaneous pain.

Since the occurrence of glans inflammation is basically due to the stimulation of local factors, external medication should be the first choice for treatment. This disease belongs to the category of "penis ulcer" and "penis wind" in traditional Chinese medicine.

Causes of glansitis

The onset of glansitis is closely related to prepuce hyperplasia. It can also be caused by some non-infectious and infectious factors.

1. Non-infectious factors

Including local trauma, friction, contraceptives, soap and detergents and other irritants, local manifestations may be edema erythema, erosion, exudation and even bleeding. If secondary bacterial infection occurs, it may become purulent and form an ulcer. The patient has obvious pain and difficulty in movement. Clinically, it is called acute superficial glansitis.

2. Candida infection

Candida is a conditionally pathogenic fungus, so candidal glansitis often occurs secondary to diabetes, senile wasting diseases, and after large-scale antibiotic or hormone treatment. It can also be primary, mostly transmitted by the spouse's candidal vaginitis. The glans and coronal sulcus may have light red erosions and thin-walled abscesses, but Candida is often not found locally, which may be caused by local allergic reaction caused by Candida.

3. Amoeba infection

Most patients first have balanoposthitis, which causes the local loss of normal barrier function, and then is caused by intestinal amoebiasis. Local erosion, ulceration, and tissue necrosis are obvious, and amoeba can be found in direct smears of secretions.

4. Trichomonas infection

Most of the cases are caused by the partner suffering from vaginal trichomoniasis. The symptoms are mild, mainly manifested as erythematous papules and small blisters on the glans. The patient often feels itchy, and trichomonas can be found in the secretions.

How to treat glansitis

Glanitis requires treatment that targets the cause and symptoms. The basic principle of Western medicine in treating balanitis is to reduce inflammation and sterilize, and treat both internally and externally.

1. Treatment of symptoms: Keep the affected area clean and hygienic, and avoid all kinds of stimulation. Those with prepuce that is too long should undergo circumcision.

2. Local treatment: If the affected area shows erosion and exudation or purulent secretions, apply medicine or ointment to relieve symptoms.

3. Etiological treatment: Patients with clear etiology should be given corresponding medication. For example, for candidal glansitis, topical nystatin cream, clotrimazole, econazole, miconazole cream, or oral antifungal drugs can be used. For trichomonal glansitis, metronidazole, tinidazole, and trichostatin can be used. For amebic glansitis, emetine, metronidazole, and tinidazole are given. If the spouse suffers from candidal or trichomonal vaginitis at the same time, they should receive treatment at the same time.

When using drugs to treat balanitis, if the inflammation has developed for a period of time, it is best to cooperate with infusion therapy to prevent the inflammation from further worsening and causing erosion or pus. It should be noted that even if the condition of balanitis improves, it does not mean that the inflammation will not recur. Therefore, it is recommended that patients can undergo negative circumcision if necessary, which can effectively prevent balanitis.
