Edema after circumcision surgery

Edema after circumcision surgery

International sexologists emphasize that most men should undergo circumcision when they are adults or even before the age of 18. The main purpose of doing so is to prevent the impact of excessive foreskin on sexual life. However, many patients who have undergone circumcision have experienced severe edema after the operation. What should we do now?

What to do if the wound is swollen after circumcision surgery

Swelling of the circumcision wound is a common symptom. It is normal for the glans penis to swell slightly within 3 to 4 days after the operation, but there are individual differences. The reason for the edema is that after circumcision, the blood circulation in the frenulum is very rich. After the operation, the blood vessels and lymphatic vessels in the skin are cut off, and a new circulation channel is created, resulting in poor circulation, which takes some time. Therefore, some circumcision edema can generally be restored in 2-3 weeks, and some can last for more than 3 months, but there is no need to worry, and the swelling will certainly disappear after the new circulation is formed.

It is not uncommon for edema to not be completely resolved three months after circumcision. The main reason is that local lymphatic drainage is not adequately established, frequent sexual intercourse is started too early, and inappropriate stimulation of the wound site is often caused. Therefore, after the operation, care should be taken to avoid stimulating activities on the wound of prepuce.

Frequently Asked Questions about Wound Care after Circumcision Surgery

In addition to antibiotics, postoperative wound care should also include medications to prevent erection and relieve pain (such as Premarin, Suometon, etc.). If the wound is swollen, painful, and bleeding, local ice compresses can be used to stimulate blood circulation; if bleeding is severe, the patient should return to the hospital for medical treatment immediately. The wound should be kept clean and dry after surgery, and be careful not to wet the gauze when urinating.

After circumcision surgery, the wound will be slightly painful and swollen. You should take painkillers regularly. It will heal in about 7 to 10 days. The wound is sutured with digestible and absorbable sutures, so there is no need for surgical removal. It is best to rest for 2-3 days after surgery. You can rest in bed, surf the Internet or read books. Try to avoid walking to prevent postoperative wound infection and bleeding. Change your underwear frequently, keep the wound clean and dry, and maintain a stable and positive mental state.
