What are the misunderstandings about male genital malformations?

What are the misunderstandings about male genital malformations?

Although male genital malformation is a relatively rare male disease with a relatively low incidence rate, it can have a significant impact on men's lives. If symptoms of genital malformation are found in children, parents must pay attention to it. Don't think it is a trivial matter. Discover it early and treat it in time. Now let's talk about the misunderstandings about male genital malformation.

Myth 1 : Phimosis in infants and young children will heal naturally.

Most infants and toddlers can naturally turn their foreskins back when they are 3-4 years old due to the development and erection of their reproductive organs. However, some children have very narrow foreskins that cannot be turned back naturally even at puberty.

Misconception 2: Waiting for the occult testicle to descend naturally and hesitating about surgical treatment.

Cryptorchidism means that the testicles do not descend into the scrotum at birth. If not treated in time, it will lead to testicular atrophy, affecting fertility, and is prone to damage and torsion. The probability of testicular tumors in cryptorchids is greatly increased compared to normal testicles. Cryptorchid patients can be observed for 10 months. If they still do not descend into the scrotum, endocrine therapy may be effective. However, cryptorchidism after 1 year old must be treated surgically. The best time for cryptorchidism surgery is within 2 years old, mainly testicular fixation.

Myth 3: Surgery for hypospadias can be delayed until puberty.

Children with hypospadias cannot urinate while standing, which seriously affects their mental health and requires plastic surgery, otherwise it will affect urination and the normal development of reproductive organs in the future, and may also lead to infertility in adulthood.
