What causes men to urinate blood?

Hematuria generally refers to an abnormal increase in red blood cells in the urine. The probability of men having hematuria is very high. Many men want to know what is going on with hematuria. Hematuria in men is generally related to disease, such as some urinary system diseases. Hematuria must be treated in time to avoid worsening of the disease.

1. Urinary tract infection

Renal hematuria refers to hematuria originating from the glomeruli. Clinically, it manifests as simple hematuria or hematuria with proteinuria. It is more common in patients with urinary tract infections. If the treatment is not thorough, the disease recurs repeatedly or is mistreated, the condition cannot be effectively controlled and eventually leads to uremia. Hematuria occurs when the permeability of the capillary wall increases; when the lesions of organs adjacent to the urinary system involve the urinary tract, it can also cause hematuria.

2. Cystitis

Cystitis mostly occurs in the bladder mucosal epithelium, which grows rapidly and is prone to rupture and bleeding on the surface. Therefore, the most common symptom of cystitis is hematuria that is invisible to the naked eye without any feeling. This is a unique abnormal urination signal of bladder cancer.

3. Prostatic hyperplasia

Hematuria is a common symptom of prostatic hyperplasia, which is mostly manifested as increased urination frequency, incomplete urination, and shorter urine stream. Sometimes, hematuria may also occur. This is because after the prostate enlarges, the capillaries in the mucosa on the surface of the prostate become congested, dilated, and twisted. When the bladder contracts or the enlarged prostate is pulled, these capillaries will rupture, causing hematuria.

4. The main cause of hematuria is urinary system diseases, such as renal tuberculosis, nephritis, urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, urinary tract tumors, etc. However, temporary hematuria may occur after upper respiratory tract infection or other febrile diseases, dehydration, or strenuous exercise, which is a normal phenomenon.
