Will poor sleep and frequent staying up late lead to insomnia?

Staying up late for a long time has become a habit for people in modern society. Some young people even take it as an honor to stay up late and ashamed to go to bed early. After all, the nightlife in the city is rich and colorful. So, will staying up late often cause symptoms such as insomnia?

Lack of sleep disrupts your biological clock

A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by the University of Surrey in the UK found that if people sleep less than six hours a night for a week, the functions of 711 genes in the human body will change, involving metabolism, inflammation, immunity and stress resistance.

Insufficient sleep can also disrupt the biological clock, making people's mental state unstable throughout the day. This means that lack of sleep will hinder the body's replenishment function and increase people's risk of illness. Once the normal sleep pattern is continuously disrupted, it will cause permanent damage to human organs and physiological tissues, causing a variety of diseases.

Lack of sleep may cause insomnia

First of all, the most obvious impact of sleep deprivation on the human body is emotional instability and lack of concentration.

Especially for those who stay up late, the sympathetic nerves remain excited at night, and they will feel listless, dizzy, have memory loss, slow reaction, etc. during the day. Over time, they will also suffer from neurasthenia and insomnia. Experts in Taiwan who specialize in studying sleep problems said that generally speaking, people are most likely to be overwhelmed by sleep debt at 4-5 am and 2-3 pm, because this is the low point of the biological clock and the stage when we are most unable to resist sleep. Many major accidents and traffic accidents occur at this time.

Secondly, when sleep debt accumulates to a certain extent, it will cause serious harm to the body, including dry and dull skin; hearing loss, deafness and tinnitus; loss of appetite, obesity; erosion and ulceration of gastric mucosa; and increased risk of heart disease, colds and other diseases.

Finally, good sleep quality is the key to longevity.
