Why do you get keratitis pilaris? How can you tell?

Hair follicles mainly refer to the "foundation" for hair growth on the skin. Once the hair follicles are damaged, it is not only difficult for hair to grow, but also causes some diseases, such as keratitis pilaris. Keratitis pilaris is very unfamiliar to some people. What is the cause of this disease? What are the symptoms?

Causes

This disease is an autosomal dominant hereditary skin disease with abnormal keratinization process. Some people believe that vitamin A metabolism disorder and sunlight exposure are important pathogenic factors.

Clinical manifestations

The disease often starts at the age of 20 to 30. It worsens in summer, and patients are sensitive to heat. Typical sites are areas of sebum secretion, such as the face, forehead, scalp, chest and back, where small, firm, normal-colored papules appear, and gradually greasy, gray-brown, and black scabs cover the concave surface of the papule tops. The papules gradually increase in size and fuse into wart-like irregular patches. The proliferation of lesions caused by sweating and friction in the flexor armpits, gluteal grooves, and pubic region is particularly significant, forming papilloma-like and proliferative lesions with a foul odor, which are covered with cracks, infiltrations, and purulent exudates. The disease may cause palmoplantar keratosis, excessive subungual keratosis of the nails, and fragile and fragmented nails. In addition, the oropharyngeal, esophageal, laryngeal, and anorectal mucosa may also be affected.
