Inguinal hernia examination methods and common treatment methods

Inguinal hernia examination methods and common treatment methods

The elderly are prone to inguinal hernia due to constipation, cough, asthma, and prostate hyperplasia. The following methods are often used when examining inguinal hernia.

How to check for inguinal hernia:

The routine examination for inguinal hernia is laboratory B-ultrasound. Regular hernia specialist hospitals use special hernia superconducting visual examination to diagnose hernia conditions including hernia type, size, size of defective hernia ring, etc., and then the doctor will formulate a specific treatment plan.

Superconducting visual examination of hernia is a new method that uses Doppler high-frequency ultrasound to examine blood flow in blood vessels or heart chambers. It can measure the speed and direction of blood flow from outside the body, thereby obtaining the blood flow distribution in the affected area, and can print the lesion into high-definition color images for a more intuitive display.

Inguinal hernia treatment options:

1. Conservative treatment

Conservative treatments include hernia belts, hernia splints, and traditional Chinese medicine. These methods can relieve symptoms or delay the development of the disease, but they cannot cure it. Some improper conservative treatments can even aggravate the condition. This method is only suitable for infants under 2 years old, the elderly and weak, or those with serious illnesses. Special hernia belts are often used to press the hernia ring to relieve symptoms.

2.Surgery

Surgery is the only reliable method for treating inguinal hernia in adults, and it is less likely to recur. Elective surgery can be performed for easily reducible hernias, while surgery for irreducible hernias should be limited to a short period of time. Incarcerated hernias and strangulation hernias must be treated with emergency surgery to avoid serious consequences. Surgical treatment is divided into traditional tissue-to-tissue tension suture repair and tension-free hernia repair technology. Currently, the internationally recognized technique is tension-free hernia repair technology, including open surgery and laparoscopic surgery.

(1) Traditional surgery patients are required to fast before and after surgery, stay in bed for several days, receive intravenous drips, and have a urinary catheter placed. Patients experience severe pain after surgery, slow recovery, and a high recurrence rate. Many patients with coexisting heart, lung, and cerebrovascular diseases cannot undergo surgery because they cannot tolerate general or local anesthesia.

Open tension-free hernia repair surgery has been introduced from abroad and has quickly become popular. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia, with a low recurrence rate and little pain. Generally, only 2 to 5 days of hospitalization are required, and the surgery can even be completed in an outpatient clinic, with a fast recovery after surgery.

(2) Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair In recent years, laparoscopic surgery has made significant progress. Laparoscopic total extraperitoneal repair (TEP) only requires two 0.5 cm incisions and one 1 cm incision. The abdominal cavity is not entered. The hernia sac is pulled back into the abdominal cavity outside the peritoneum, and then the hernia protrusion gap is covered with an artificial mesh. This method is suitable for the treatment of bilateral inguinal hernia and recurrent hernia, and it has small trauma, fast recovery, and low recurrence rate.
