Several ways to self-diagnose depression

Many people don't actually understand depression. The pressure in modern society is too great, and it is easy to suffer from depression if you are not careful. Depression is difficult to detect in the early stages. It is often necessary to judge whether depression will occur based on some details. So, what are the methods for self-examination of depression?

1. Depressed mood most of the day, either self-reported by the patient (e.g., feeling sad, empty), or observed by others (e.g., crying quietly). Note: In children and adolescents, this may be manifested as irritability rather than overt depression.

2. Loss of interest in all or most activities that are usually of interest, for most of the day, either as reported by the patient or as observed by others.

3. Significant weight loss or gain (5% of normal weight), and significant decrease or increase in appetite. Note: In children, this manifests as a lack of normal weight gain.

4. Suffering from insomnia or sleeping too much every day.

5. Daily increase or decrease in mental activity (not just the subjective feeling of restlessness or unwillingness to move, but also observable by others).

6. Feeling tired and lacking energy every day.

7. Feeling worthless or guilty every day (may be delusional). This is not just ordinary self-blame or just feeling ashamed of your depression.

8. Daily concentration and thinking abilities decrease, and decision-making becomes indecisive. (Self-report or observation by others)

9. Frequent thoughts about death (not just fear of death), or frequent thoughts of suicide without a specific plan, or having a specific plan to commit suicide, or even committing suicidal acts.
