Don't let an elbow fracture leave adverse sequelae!

Elbow fractures are common in men during sports and daily life. After a fracture, everyone focuses on the bone, but forgets about the soft tissues around the joint, such as muscles, ligaments, and nerve recovery. This will leave many sequelae that will accompany you for the rest of your life in severe cases. How can we effectively prevent these fracture sequelae?

1. Don’t blindly supplement calcium

Some people think that supplementing calcium after a fracture can accelerate the healing of the fracture. However, scientific research has found that increasing calcium intake does not accelerate the healing of fractures. For patients with fractures who have been bedridden for a long time, there is a potential risk of increased blood calcium and a decrease in blood phosphorus. For patients with fractures, there is no lack of calcium in the body. As long as they strengthen functional exercises and move as soon as possible according to their condition and the doctor's instructions, they can promote the absorption and utilization of calcium by bones and accelerate the healing of fractures.

2. Avoid eating too much meat and bones

Some people believe that eating more meat and bones after a fracture can help the fracture heal earlier. In fact, this is not the case. Modern medicine has proven through many practices that if patients with fractures eat more meat and bones, it will not only fail to heal earlier, but will delay the healing of the fracture. This is because the regeneration of bones after injury mainly depends on the role of the periosteum and bone marrow, and the periosteum and bone marrow can only play a better role under the condition of increasing collagen. The main components of meat and bones are phosphorus and calcium. If a large amount of them are consumed after a fracture, it will increase the inorganic components in the bone, resulting in an imbalance in the proportion of organic matter in the bone, which will hinder the early healing of the fracture.

3. Avoid partiality

Fracture patients often have local edema, congestion, bleeding, muscle tissue damage and other conditions. The body itself has the ability to resist and repair these, and the raw materials for the body to repair tissues, grow bones and regenerate muscles, form calluses, and remove blood stasis and swelling are various nutrients. Therefore, it can be seen that the key to ensuring smooth healing of fractures is nutrition.

5. Avoid drinking less water

Bedridden fracture patients, especially those with spine, pelvic and lower limb fractures, have great difficulty in moving, so they try to drink less water to reduce the frequency of urination. Although this reduces the frequency of urination, it also creates greater trouble. For example, bedridden patients have less activity, weak intestinal motility, and less water intake, which can easily lead to constipation. Long-term bed rest and urine retention can also easily induce urinary tract stones and urinary tract infections.

6. Do not consume excessive amounts of sugar

After consuming a large amount of sugar, it will cause rapid metabolism of glucose, thereby producing metabolic intermediates such as pyruvic acid and lactic acid, which will cause the body to be in an acidic state. At this time, alkaline calcium, magnesium, sodium ions will be immediately mobilized to participate in the neutralization to prevent the blood from becoming acidic. Such a large consumption of calcium will be detrimental to the recovery of fracture patients. At the same time, too much sugar will also reduce the content of vitamin B1 in the body. Insufficient vitamin B1 greatly reduces the activity of nerves and muscles, and also affects the recovery of function.
