Can I eat fish if my blood sugar is high? Eating fish can actually regulate blood sugar

As we all know, people with high blood sugar levels need to avoid certain foods in their daily diet. Fish is delicious and nutritious, so people often eat fish. So, can people with high blood sugar levels eat fish?

Can I eat fish if I have high blood sugar?

Fish has many benefits, and eating fish is indeed a good choice for diabetics. However, fish is best steamed or boiled, not fried, and try to choose high-quality sea fish or river fish. In addition, the amount of fish you eat is also important.

Diabetics with normal uric acid levels can eat fish 2 to 3 times a week, with 80 to 150 grams each time being the most appropriate. Diabetic patients with slightly elevated blood uric acid levels (between 360 and 420 mmol/L) should reduce their fish intake appropriately to once a week, about 80 grams each time. If the blood uric acid level exceeds 420 mmol/L, all fish should be stopped to prevent gout.

Benefits of eating fish:

1. Eating fish may help regulate blood sugar. A Japanese survey showed that men who ate 170 grams of fish a day had a 30% lower risk of diabetes than those who ate only 40 grams of fish a day, especially oily fish such as sardines and saury. But eating fish regularly does not help women prevent diabetes.

Some experts speculate that eating fish can prevent diabetes because the unsaturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contained in fish improve insulin function. In addition, it has been reported that the polyunsaturated fatty acid n-3 and the ratio of n-3 to n-6 in fish are the most ideal, which is beneficial for regulating blood sugar and preventing complications of diabetes.

2. Protect the heart and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The unsaturated fatty acids contained in fish can reduce blood viscosity, prevent myocardial infarction and stroke, and reduce the level of triglycerides in the body. Foreign research has found that women with diabetes are at a particularly high risk of cardiovascular disease, but among these patients, those who like to eat fish are much less likely to develop heart disease within 16 years. The American Academy of Heart Disease recommends that adults should eat fish at least twice a week.
