The 7 most deadly male diseases

The 7 most deadly male diseases

The Popular Health Network has listed the seven diseases that are most harmful to men's health, hoping to help men detect diseases early and take preventive measures.

1. Men are most afraid of cardiovascular diseases

Arteriosclerosis means "man's worst enemy" in Latin. Indeed, because women are protected by estrogen, they develop cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases about 10 years later than men. In addition, cholesterol slowly accumulates in the blood vessels of the heart or brain. Once blocked, heart disease or stroke will occur. Men should work harder to reduce their risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases: after the age of 20, check cholesterol every 5 years. If it is abnormal, first quit smoking, then increase the amount of activity by at least half an hour a day, and eat more fruits and vegetables.

2. Liver cancer is the most common cancer in men, claiming tens of thousands of lives each year.

Liver cancer has no symptoms and is difficult to detect. It can only be diagnosed through screening. Responsible men should check whether they are carriers of the hepatitis virus as early as possible. If confirmed, they must regularly check liver function indexes and do abdominal ultrasound examinations. If you are a man with a big belly, be careful, fatty liver may also turn into cirrhosis or even liver cancer. Losing weight and exercising is the best policy.

3. Avoid lung cancer

Lung cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men in Taiwan. If you go to the doctor with symptoms such as coughing, blood in sputum, chest pain, and difficulty breathing, nearly 80% of people are already in the late stage of lung cancer. Not smoking can reduce the risk of lung cancer by 90%, and it will also reduce the chances of your wife getting lung cancer.

4. Say no to gout

People diagnosed with gout before the age of 40 account for 1/3 of all patients. More and more high school boys come to see gout. Huang Guojin, attending physician of the Family Medicine Department of National Taiwan University Hospital, said that boys who celebrate holidays or events by overeating or even drinking alcohol are very likely to induce the disease. To prevent gout, you must refuse to eat too much animal offal and drink alcohol. As soon as alcohol enters the stomach, it will produce uric acid during the metabolism process in the body, which will increase the uric acid in the blood; alcohol will also hinder the excretion of uric acid. It is also necessary to avoid overeating. The uric acid value fluctuates, which will accelerate the deposition of sodium urate and induce gout.

5. Protect the prostate

In Taiwan, although prostate cancer ranks fifth in male cancer incidence and seventh in mortality, it is rising rapidly. Last year, 936 people died, surpassing cervical cancer. Taiwanese men know little about prostate cancer, and more than half of patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Like many other cancers, prostate cancer is closely related to lifestyle habits. Experts recommend eating more red fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, red grapefruits, and watermelons, which are rich in lycopene, which can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Soy products such as soy milk and tofu can inhibit the secretion of male hormones that nourish tumor growth. Drink more tea, because tea contains catechins, which can also protect the prostate.

6. Get rid of diabetes

High blood sugar levels can damage the kidneys. Pan Wenhan, a researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, found that half of diabetics over the age of 19 do not know they have the disease. High blood sugar levels can damage the heart, eyes, nerves and kidneys, and can ruin men. Obesity and a large waistline are the breeding ground for diabetes, so exercise and a healthy diet are the way to prevent it.

7. Stay away from depression

People often think that women are more likely to commit suicide, but in fact, the suicide rate of men is 2.2 times that of women. Depression is the seventh leading cause of death in men's health. Depression is not only a bad mood, but also affects physical health. Depression affects the body and mind, causing varying degrees of insomnia, loss of appetite, and weakness, which also increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Liu Zongxian, a psychiatrist at the Songde Branch of Taipei Municipal United Hospital, recommends that if you experience insomnia and lack of energy, you should be alert and actively seek medical attention.
