What is teratozoospermia and what are the treatments?

Experts say that teratozoospermia is one of the causes of male infertility, and the number of patients is not small. However, many people are still not familiar with oligospermia in daily life. In this regard, the following editor will briefly introduce the relevant knowledge of oligospermia, hoping that they can help everyone better understand oligospermia.

About 4% of male infertility is caused by teratozoospermia in semen examination. The abnormal sperm should generally not exceed 20%. If the abnormal sperm is 30% or more, it is called teratozoospermia. The abnormal sperm does not have normal activity and conception ability.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, excessive sexual intercourse and frequent masturbation can lead to kidney essence depletion, Yin deficiency and excessive fire, which can burn kidney essence; or congenital deficiency, physical weakness after illness, insufficient kidney qi, and loss of essence nourishment; or a habit of eating spicy, alcoholic and rich foods can lead to endogenous dampness and heat, which can fumigate the sperm palace and damage kidney essence; or mental depression, liver failure to release energy, wood depression turning into fire, which in turn insults kidney water and damages kidney essence; or qi stagnation and blood stasis in the lower part of the body, poor blood circulation in the sperm chamber, and loss of essence nourishment, etc., can all cause sperm deformity or excessive dead sperm.

Modern medicine believes that semen contains new and old sperm produced at different stages, so it is allowed to contain a certain proportion of deformed sperm, dead sperm, and sperm with poor motility. However, the number cannot be too high, otherwise it will affect fertility.

Male fertility is directly proportional to the number of sperm and sperm motility, and inversely proportional to sperm abnormalities. Clinically, men who have not ejaculated for a long time often have high sperm density, but also more abnormal sperm and dead sperm, and poor motility. Therefore, the slightly higher number of abnormal sperm in the semen of men who have not had sex for a long time (more than 7 days) is abnormal.

The above is the editor’s introduction on how to understand teratozoospermia.
