How long can sperm survive in the body?

Men will say that male sperm is ejaculated into women's bodies during sexual intercourse. Male sperm can survive in women's bodies for a certain number of days, and there are also large differences in the survival areas of male sperm in women's bodies. Generally speaking, male sperm will appear in women's vagina, cervix and bilateral fallopian tubes in women's bodies. This article will explain in detail the survival time of male sperm in different areas.

1. The duration of male sperm remaining in the female reproductive system

The pH of the acid-base secretions in the vagina is usually 3.5-4. Although in theory, as long as there is a live sperm, fertilization can occur, in fact, in the acid-base environment of the vagina, most sperm will be destroyed soon after entering the vagina. Only when a certain amount of sperm is stored can the survival rate of extremely active sperm be increased enough to have the opportunity to enter the uterus and fertilization.

If there is no large amount of sperm abandonment, if there is no certain amount of sperm buffering to improve the acidic and alkaline environment inside the vagina, a single sperm or a small number of sperm in the acidic and alkaline environment of the vagina is not likely to survive and fertilize.

Under normal circumstances, the survival time of sperm in the female vagina is: 90% die 2 hours after sexual intercourse; after 36 hours, even the dead ones can't be seen. In the vagina of pregnant women, the higher the acidity, the faster the sperm die.

2. The retention time of male sperm in the cervix

The change of pH value of cervical mucus has a great influence on sperm penetration. When pH is lower than 6.5, sperm activity stops, when pH is 7, there is a slight ability to penetrate, when pH is 7.5, the ability to penetrate is normal, and when pH is 8.2, the ability to penetrate is stronger.

There is a lot of mucus blocking the external opening of the cervix, which causes many sperm to be unable to penetrate and die outside. Cervical mucus is thick and elastic just after the menstrual period; near the ovulation period, due to the increase of estrogen in the blood, the mucus becomes more, clearer, and the thickness increases; during the ovulation period, the mucus is larger, clearer, and more flexible, making it easier for sperm to penetrate.

Male sperm passes through cervical mucus with the help of enzyme hydrolysis. Chymotrypsin and hyaluronidase can hydrolyze cervical mucus, reduce viscosity, and eliminate sticky threads, which is beneficial to the passage of male sperm.

Under normal circumstances, the survival time of sperm in the cervix is: in the cervix, sperm can be found in the cervical mucus 15 minutes after sex; one hour later, sperm enters the internal opening; in the uterine cavity, there are sperm in the uterine cavity one hour after sex, after 6 hours, all are active sperm, after 12 hours, 5/6 of the sperm are still alive, after 36 hours, 1/4 of the sperm are still alive, and after three days, there are no live sperm. But sometimes some sperm survive very long.

3. The retention time of male sperm in the bilateral fallopian tubes

In the fallopian tubes on both sides, there will be active sperm 14 hours after sexual intercourse, and sometimes there will still be active sperm 35 days later. Generally, those after 14 days are more active, and some enter the abdomen. Those with slow exercise are pushed back into the uterine cavity by the microvilli.

The article details the survival time of sperm in different parts of the female body. If you are a normal man, your sperm will survive in the female body for a very long time. Sperm can survive the longest in the bilateral fallopian tubes, even up to 35 days.
