Notes on male sperm testing

Notes on male sperm testing

If a couple has normal sexual life for a year without taking any contraceptive measures and does not get pregnant, they may be suffering from infertility. Infertility can occur in both men and women. A sperm test on men can detect whether there are abnormalities in the sperm and whether there are lesions in the prostate. The clinical significance is very important and only by following the formal operation can a more accurate result be obtained.

Performing semen examination on male infertility patients is the most basic method to examine male reproductive function. Semen examination is simple to operate, the test data is accurate, and it has a high clinical reference value. It is also the first routine examination to be done for male infertility. The semen collection procedure in semen examination is very important and must be strictly followed according to regulations so that the test results will be accurate and effective.

1. The abstinence period is 48 hours to 7 days, usually 3 to 5 days is appropriate.

2. It is best to clean the glans penis at home before collecting semen. Wash and dry your hands before collecting semen to avoid dirtying the semen collection cup with hand soap and water, and avoid dropping foreign objects into the semen collection cup (cotton fibers from clothing, pubic hair, etc.).

3. It is best to urinate and empty your bladder before collecting semen.

4. It is best to have no obvious discomfort, no history of taking special medications, or any unhealthy lifestyle one week before sperm retrieval.

5. It is best to collect semen through masturbation. If you have difficulty collecting semen, please inform the volunteer in advance.

6. Those who collect semen at home should avoid using the intercourse interruption method, and do not use condoms to collect semen on their own. During semen transportation, the temperature should be maintained at 20℃~40℃ and violent shaking should be avoided. It is best to send it for testing within 30 minutes.

7. Collect semen as completely as possible to avoid leakage outside the semen collection cup.

8. A report will be issued 5 days after the sperm deformity rate test, spermatogenic cytology test, seminal antisperm antibodies (MAR), sperm motility test, semen leukocyte test, and seminal plasma biochemistry (fructose, neutral a-glycosidase, acid phosphatase) test are performed.
