Prostaglandin synthase

Prostaglandin synthase

Prostate disease is a common disease in men, especially when men get older. Most men will suffer from prostate disease. After suffering from prostate disease, the male urinary system will be affected to a certain extent, and men will also feel pain during sexual life. The reason for prostate disease is that the secretion of prostaglandin synthase in the body is too low. So what is prostaglandin synthase?

It is an active enzyme that increases the synthesis of prostaglandins.

Prostaglandin (PG) is a class of active substances composed of unsaturated fatty acids that exist in animals and humans and have a variety of physiological effects. It was first discovered that it exists in human semen. At that time, it was thought that this substance was released by the prostate, so it was named prostaglandin. It has been proven that prostaglandins in semen mainly come from the seminal vesicles, and many tissue cells in the body can produce prostaglandins. Prostaglandins (PG) are synthesized in the body from arachidonic acid, and the structure is a 20-carbon unsaturated fatty acid composed of a five-ring and two side chains. According to its structure, prostaglandins are divided into types such as A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I. Different types of prostaglandins have different functions. For example, prostaglandin E can relax bronchial smooth muscles and reduce ventilation resistance; while prostaglandin F has the opposite effect.

The half-life of prostaglandins is extremely short (1 to 2 minutes). Except for prostaglandin I2, other prostaglandins are rapidly degraded by the lungs and liver. Therefore, prostaglandins are not like typical hormones that affect the activities of distant target tissues through circulation. Instead, prostaglandins are produced and released locally, and they regulate the physiological activities of the cells that produce prostaglandins or neighboring cells. Prostaglandins have effects on the endocrine, reproductive, digestive, blood respiration, cardiovascular, urinary and nervous systems.
