Foamy urine in men

Foamy urine in men

When you wake up in the morning, there is a lot of foam in your urine. This is a very obvious symptom. You may think it is a kidney problem, such as urine protein. If the protein content is high, there will naturally be a lot of foam in the urine, especially a thick layer of foam floating on top. This is the most obvious symptom. In addition, it is not ruled out that there is some liquid after having sex, so the urine excreted is also foamy.

Cause

1. In case of liver and kidney diseases, the content of bilirubin or protein in urine increases, the surface tension of urine decreases, and more bubbles may be produced during urination;

2. Bladder diseases such as cystitis, bladder cancer, etc., or other urinary tract infections can easily change the composition of urine and produce bubbles;

3. In diabetes, the content of urine sugar or urine ketone bodies increases, the acidity and alkalinity of urine changes, and the surface tension of urine decreases; organic substances (glucose) and inorganic substances (various mineral salts) in urine can also increase the tension of urine and produce foam, but this kind of foam is generally large and disappears quickly. Diabetic patients are prone to foamy urine due to increased blood sugar and subsequent increase in urine sugar.

4. When there are gas-producing bacteria in the urinary tract, bubbles can be produced in the urine; urinary tract infection can cause increased foam in the urine. Common ones include urinary tract infection, cystitis, prostatitis, etc., most of which are accompanied by symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating.

5. Long-term separation of couples, long-term cessation of sexual intercourse, and frequent sexual excitement may also cause bubbles in urine due to increased mucus secretion from the bulbourethral glands and reduced tension on the urine surface. In addition, when urinating urgently, the urination pressure increases, the urine speed increases, and the tension on the urine surface decreases, which may also increase bubbles.

6. Urine bilirubin, the urine shows soybean oil-like changes, and yellow foam appears after shaking and is not easy to disappear. It is common in obstructive jaundice and hepatocellular jaundice.

Presence of semen in the urethra: If there is semen in the urethra of men, it can cause foamy urine, such as retrograde ejaculation (common in patients with diabetes and autonomic nervous system dysfunction); frequent sexual excitement increases the secretion of mucus in the bulbourethral glands, and post-spermia.

7. Urination too quickly: When urinating too quickly, the urine strongly impacts the liquid surface, and the air and urine mix together, which is easy to form foam, but it is easy to dissipate. In addition, if you stand too high when urinating, under the action of gravity, the urine has a greater impact on the liquid surface, which is also easy to form foam.

8. Urine concentration: When drinking too little water, sweating too much, or having diarrhea, the body's lack of water causes urine concentration, resulting in higher concentrations of protein and other components in the urine, which can easily lead to increased foam in the urine.

9. Proteinuria: Abnormally high protein content in urine is one of the most common causes of foamy urine and is also an important clinical manifestation of various diseases, especially kidney diseases. Various primary kidney diseases, such as various primary glomerulonephritis, and various secondary kidney damages, such as diabetes, hypertension, gout, hepatitis, etc., can all lead to kidney damage and increased protein in urine. Multiple myeloma, acute intravascular hemolysis, leukemia, etc., although the kidney function is normal, but due to the presence of a large amount of abnormal protein in the blood, protein also leaks into the urine, forming proteinuria.

10. Other reasons: Disinfectants or detergents in the toilet bowl can also cause urine to foam. [1]

In short, there are many reasons for bubbles in urine, but when there are a lot of bubbles in the urine, the bubbles are large and last for a long time, you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

Reminder: If the urine foam disappears automatically in a short time, it means there is no problem. If the urine foam does not disappear automatically for a long time, it means there may be problems with the kidneys. Such urine may be proteinuria. Proteinuria is an important symptom of kidney disease, please pay attention to it! If there is foam in the urine for a long time, you should go to a regular hospital for a urine test.
