Can I have sex with an enlarged prostate?

The prostate is an important organ of the male reproductive system, and prostate enlargement is also a common disease in men's medicine. So, can you have sex with an enlarged prostate? Mild prostate enlargement does not have much impact on your life. If the disease is more serious, it will be different. First of all, it will cause psychological pressure on the patient. Therefore, if you suffer from a disease like prostate enlargement, you must diagnose and treat it early.

What is prostate enlargement?

Prostate enlargement occurs when a man's prostate gland (located below the bladder and produces semen) grows larger as he ages. About half of all men over age 60 will develop this condition, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It's not clear why some men develop enlarged prostates and others don't, but one thing is certain: BPH is not cancer, and it doesn't cause cancer.

What are the symptoms of an enlarged prostate?

1. Increased urination frequency (frequent urination)

Do you urinate more often than before, especially at night when you want to fall asleep? This is a common symptom of prostate enlargement. This is because the enlarged prostate will compress the urethra (the tube in the body that discharges urine), and the bladder needs to use "greater force" to contract in order to discharge urine. Therefore, the bladder may start to contract when there is only a little urine, making people want to urinate frequently.

2. Difficulty urinating

People with an enlarged prostate may take longer to urinate and have a smaller urine stream than usual. They may also experience urine dripping or feel that there is still urine after urinating. This is because the enlarged prostate presses on the urethra, narrowing it, and the bladder needs to strengthen its urination.

3. Inability to urinate

People may experience urinary inability when the prostate enlarges to the point where it completely blocks the urethra or when a bladder infection develops. The bladder muscles may also become too weak to contract to push urine out. Either way, this can damage the kidneys, so if you find yourself unable to urinate, see a doctor immediately to prevent kidney damage. If you suddenly become unable to urinate, call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.
