Is prostatitis contagious?

Prostate inflammation is a common problem for men, and the prostate is often jokingly called the "lifeline", so you can see its importance. Once it has problems, you must go to the doctor, don't be afraid to see a doctor, which will affect your health. Many friends who have prostate inflammation want to know if prostate inflammation can infect their family members? Today, I will give a brief introduction!

Prostatitis is caused by a variety of complex causes and inducements

The complex pathological changes of prostate inflammation, immunity, and neuroendocrine lead to the disease with urethral irritation and chronic pelvic pain as the main clinical manifestations. The clinical manifestations of prostatitis are diverse, and pain and discomfort in the perineum, suprapubic area, groin area, and genitals may occur; urethral symptoms include burning sensation during urination, urgency, frequency, and pain during urination, which may be accompanied by hematuria at the end of urination or purulent discharge from the urethra; acute infection may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as chills, fever, and fatigue.

It should be said that the vast majority of prostatitis is not a sexually transmitted disease.

The classification of prostatitis has been introduced above. Most chronic prostatitis is non-bacterial prostatitis (Type III). This type of prostatitis is not caused by pathogenic bacteria, and no clear pathogenic bacteria can be found in semen or prostatic fluid, so it is not contagious. Even if it is bacterial prostatitis, although there are pathogenic bacteria in the patient's semen or prostatic fluid, the female vagina has a strong ability to resist foreign bacterial infection, so the patient does not need to worry about transmitting the disease to his wife through sexual intercourse.

However, there is indeed a small number of complicated prostatitis caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as gonococci, mycoplasma, and chlamydia. This part of prostatitis belongs to the category of sexually transmitted diseases and theoretically can be transmitted to women through sexual intercourse. For this part of prostatitis patients, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and if necessary, the couple should receive treatment at the same time.
