Why do you need to hold your urine during a prostate exam?

Men who have had prostate examinations know that the doctor asks you to hold your urine before the examination. Many people do not understand this phenomenon, but in fact, holding your urine is to make your B-ultrasound clearer, and many cases of prostatitis are caused by frequent holding of urine. Therefore, this will allow the doctor to better understand the cause of your disease, which is very helpful to your body.

If you have symptoms of frequent urination or urination, you need to do three tests

The most common symptom of prostatic hyperplasia is difficulty in urination, which is manifested as frequent urination, especially increased urination at night; there are also hesitation and long urination, thinning urine stream, short range, dribbling urine, etc. In addition, there are acute and chronic urinary retention, urinary incontinence, bladder stones, hematuria, urinary tract infection and hydronephrosis.

What tests should be done after urination symptoms occur in patients with prostate hyperplasia? First, serum PSA test to exclude the risk of prostate cancer. Second, transrectal ultrasound examination to understand the size of the prostate.

This method is more realistic and accurate than transabdominal ultrasound examination, and it does not require patients to hold their urine beforehand, which is more convenient for patients. Third, free urine flow rate measurement or urodynamic analysis.

Mild prostatic hyperplasia may not be treated

Not all elderly people with prostate hyperplasia will have urinary symptoms. Therefore, those with symptoms need treatment, while those who do not have urinary symptoms or have mild symptoms can temporarily not be treated. Patients need to understand that all treatments for prostate hyperplasia are symptomatic treatments.

Drug treatment is convenient and safe. Commonly used drugs are divided into the following three categories: 5α-reductase inhibitors, which can reduce the size of the prostate and thus reduce urethral resistance;

α-receptor blockers can increase the contraction force of the detrusor muscle, improve urination efficiency, and improve symptoms of frequent urination; herbal medicines mainly function to eliminate damage and edema of the prostatic urethra and relieve urination discomfort.

When you have prostate disease, you must receive timely treatment and conditioning, so that your disease can gradually get better. It will definitely have an impact on your reproductive organs, so you must pay attention to it. In addition, it is best for men not to work overtime frequently, because frequent overtime work can cause great harm to your body.
