Scabies on the scrotum

Scabies on the scrotum

It is still quite common to see scabies on the scrotum. This is mainly caused by bacterial infection, which is definitely contagious. Therefore, it must be treated as soon as the disease occurs. If the examination shows that your scabies is not that serious, it is actually relatively simple to treat. It can be well relieved with conservative treatment with general medication.

Scrotal scabies is transmitted by scabies. The size of the worm is 270-380 microns, and there are two types, male and female. The female worm is larger and barely visible to the naked eye, while the male worm is half the size of the female worm and is difficult to see when taken orally. People with high mobility, poor living conditions, and poor hygiene habits are more likely to develop scabies. Autumn, winter, and spring are the most common seasons for this disease. Visiting relatives and friends during holidays, sleeping in the same bed with patients, or shaking hands with each other create favorable conditions for the spread of this disease.

Unclean sex can spread the disease directly. Scabies crawls very fast on warm skin, and can travel 2.5 cm in 1 minute. There are two causes of the disease: one is the mechanical damage to the skin caused by the cuticle tunnels of the skin; the other is the toxins in the secretions of the scabies that stimulate the skin to itch.

Once scrotal scabies is diagnosed, it should be treated actively. It is easier to treat when the condition is not very serious. Usually, 1% R-666 cream is applied to the whole body and washed off after 1 day. Be careful not to touch the eyes and dry membranes. This medicine is forbidden to be used by infants and pregnant women. 10% sulfur ointment can be applied to the whole body or bathing. Nodular scabies can be applied with coal tar gel every night, and the nodules can disappear after 2-3 weeks; those with more obvious purulent infection can be taken orally, especially erythromycin; for those who still have persistent itching after treatment with scabies-killing drugs.

For patients whose normal work is affected by the itching, they can take oral prednisone tablets for a short period of time, 30 mg per day, divided into 3 times. It can produce a significant anti-itching effect in 7-10 days. As long as the medication is used properly, the disease can be cured in a short period of time. In order to block the source of infection. During the treatment period, it is strictly forbidden to contact such patients, and all items used by the patients should be boiled and disinfected; those that cannot be boiled can be ironed; items that cannot be boiled or ironed, such as plastic products, should be placed separately for more than half a month before use, so as to completely eliminate scabies and prevent the reproduction of eggs. Washbasins and bathtubs can be soaked in disinfectant solution (such as 1‰ Sanitizer solution) to eliminate scabies. [2]

Scrotal scabies is a widespread infectious disease, so we should take precautions, wash and dry clothes and bedding regularly, and develop good hygiene habits. If there is a person with this disease at home, we should avoid direct contact with him/her, and children should not be held by the patient, let alone sleep in the same bed or share bedding with the patient.

If one of the spouses is infected with scabies, the other spouse must undergo a course of preventive treatment regardless of whether or not he or she shows symptoms. If other family members have any doubts, they should go to a medical school for examination, timely diagnosis and treatment.
