Small pimples on men's areola

Small pimples on a man's areola are usually typical symptoms of folliculitis. Folliculitis is a relatively common inflammation, which is mainly caused by staphylococcal infection. Folliculitis has a great impact on patients. If not treated in time, it may even cause the diseased area to further expand, bringing greater pain to the patient. The following is an introduction to the relevant knowledge of folliculitis.

1. Overview

This disease is a purulent inflammation caused by bacterial infection of the entire hair follicle. It starts as a red papule, which gradually develops into papular pustules, which are isolated and scattered, and are slightly painful. In adults, it mainly occurs in the hairy parts, and in children, it is more common on the head. The rash can sometimes merge with each other, and small patches of alopecia may remain after healing.

2. Causes

The pathogen is mainly staphylococcus, and sometimes staphylococcus epidermidis can be isolated. Discleanliness, scratching and low body resistance can be the causes of this disease.

3. Clinical manifestations

Initially, it is a red, solid papule that is consistent with the opening of the hair follicle, or it starts from a follicular abscess, and then rapidly develops into a papular abscess, with hair penetrating in the middle, and red and inflamed around it, and then dries and forms a scab, which heals after about a week of scab shedding, but there are also cases of recurrence, which do not heal for many years, and some can also develop into deep infection, forming sores and warts, etc., which generally do not leave scars. The number of rashes is relatively large, isolated and scattered, and the patient feels mild pain. In adults, it mainly occurs in the hairy parts, and in children, it is more likely to occur on the head. The rashes can sometimes merge with each other, and small patches of alopecia may remain after healing.

4. Diagnosis

1. At the onset, there is a hard lump with local redness, swelling, pain and tenderness. After a few days, the source of the disease expands, and a yellow-white purulent plug appears in the center, which then softens, ruptures, and pus is discharged, and the inflammation is alleviated and gradually healed.

2. When the swelling is larger, there may be systemic symptoms such as fever, headache and fatigue, and the white blood cell count may increase.

3. If facial swelling is combined with intracranial infection, the facial swelling is severe and may be accompanied by chills, high fever, headache, etc., indicating cavernous sinus infection embolism.

5. Treatment

Antibiotics can be used as appropriate. 1% neomycin ointment, mupirocin ointment, fusidic acid ointment or 2% iodine tincture can be applied topically. Ultraviolet irradiation can also be tried. For patients with recurrent attacks, self-made vaccine or polyvalent staphylococcal vaccine can be tried.
